Once upon
a time, in a city far away, the Pianomouse was born. His parents,
Nicholas and Justina lived in a small but comfortable mouse
hole. This mouse hole just so happened to be in the grand home
of the great pianist, Frederic Chopin. There was music everywhere!
Nicholas and Justina were both musicians. His mother played
the piano and his father played the violin. Their music was
beautiful, but when the great Chopin would play late at night,
nothing compared to it's beauty. When Pianomouse was little,
as little as a mouse can be, he remembers his mother and father
practicing their music. As he grew older, his parents wanted
him to study music. He of course, wanted to learn to play the
piano.
One evening,
the little chandelier in the mouse hole began to shake. Justina
knew that Chopin was entertaining his friends in the parlor. She
instructed Pianomouse to attend the concert with the other guests.
Pianomouse assured his mother that he would not be caught, and he
headed toward the parlor. While scurrying not to miss one note,
he happened to come upon the most beautiful banquet table full of
pastries, bread and cheese. Pianomouse decided to not only enjoy
the beautiful music, but to also sample the delicious sweets. He
stuffed his pockets with bread and cheese and gathered a few desserts.
He then headed towards the music in the parlor. While balancing
teacakes and a wedge of cheese, Pianomouse scrambled up the side
of the piano. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell right inside
the piano. When Chopin hit a high note, the lid came crashing down.
He was now trapped inside Chopin's piano. The music continued, echoing
in his ears. Pianomouse began jumping madly to avoid being struck
by the piano hammers. As the evening went on, Pianomouse grew weary
running from the hammers. But just when Pianomouse was about to
give up, the candles were snuffed out and Chopin was bidding farewell
to his friends. Chopin headed for bed after an evening of music
and merriment. The room became silent and dark. With one loud squeak,
Pianomouse alerted his parents for help. Nicholas and Justina scurried
up the side of the piano and discovered the dilemma Pianomouse had
gotten himself into. They helped wedge him out and then safely returned
to their snug little mouse hole. With a tummy full of sweets and
music in his ears, Pianomouse was tucked in bed for the night.
The next morning
his mother scolded him for being mischievous. "How are you ever
going to learn music if you do not stop eating Chopin's pastries
and cheese?" With that, Pianomouse sat down at his little piano
and began practicing his scales and chords. From that day forward,
he practiced everyday, and always with a little mouse smile.
One day, a visitor
arrived at the mouse hole. Friedrich, a friend of Nicholas and Justina,
came to visit with his daughter, Clara. Pianomouse was introduced
to Clara and from that day forward they became best friends. They
both loved music. Pianomouse would play his little piano, while
Clara would play her beloved violin. Together they spent many hours
laughing, playing music, and eating cheese.
As they grew
older, they decided to attend Mousetro Conservatory of Music. At
the conservatory, Pianomouse studied under the great Leonardo Micestein
while Clara studied with the famous Dr.Mary Costa. Soon enough,
Clara was touring throughout Europe as a concert violinist. Her
fame was growing and her dream was to someday perform at Carnegie
Hall.
Pianomouse pursued
his career in music performing throughout all of the great concert
halls of Europe. He loved to play the music of Chopin. As his fame
grew, so did his fortune. Pianomouse loved his music and loved performing.
Meanwhile, another
great performer had entered the European stage, the great Puccini,
the opera-singing cat. Puccini was born in Milan, Italy. His parents,
Antonio and Maria were famous opera-singing cats. When Puccini was
very little, he loved to sing. He would wake up singing and sing
all day until he fell asleep at night. Antonio and Maria knew that
Puccini would someday sing at La Scala, the famous opera house in
Milan. When Puccini was little, he was mischievous. During his singing
class, he would often tease his teacher by intentionally singing
wrong notes. As Puccini grew older his voice became even more beautiful.
The day finally
arrived when he was invited to sing at La Scala. The curtain rose
and there on stage stood Puccini, the most magnificent opera-singing
cat. He sang for hours until the audience cheered wildly. "Bravo!
Bravo!" the audience screamed. Puccini had the most beautiful voice
they had ever heard.
Since that night
at La Scala, Puccini thought of himself as the toast of Italy. One
evening he was gathered with his friends, when he heard about another
famous performer, Pianomouse. "Who is this Pianomouse?" shouted
Puccini. "I must find out if he is more famous than me?" Ever since
then, Puccini has been looking everywhere for Pianomouse. He sets
trap and tries to trick him. He has not caught Pianomouse yet, but
he is following his Mouse Tracks!
